Using ChatGPT for Recruitment and Insights from HR Experts
Written By Jawad Junejo
It is hard to not talk about ChatGPT as it is expected to transform every field. We have gathered the various ways in which this innovation impacts recruitment and what the HR experts are talking about.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, companies that fail to adopt new technologies risk falling behind their competitors. This is especially true in the Recruitment space, where constantly new HR tech trends are taking place. The latest one of these trends is using ChatGPT for recruitment which has taken the world by storm.
Let’s explore different ways in which this technology can revolutionize—and is revolutionizing—HR. In this blog, we are going to highlight the benefits of using ChatGPT in recruitment and what HR experts think about it.
But before taking that leap, let’s first cover the basics.
What is ChatGPT by OpenAI?
In simple terms, ChatGPT is an AI-based chatbot that has been trained to generate human-like text. It is an acronym for Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer (ChatGPT).
Now in technical terms, this bot uses deep learning algorithms to analyze vast amounts of data and generate text that is coherent and contextually relevant. Here is an example.
I commanded this chatbot to write a short poem of two lines about using ChatGPT for recruitment. Here is how it rhymed for me within a few seconds:
Now you are not going to write poems of course but think about all your copywriting content for your employer brand. This is going to nail it for you. I’ll discuss further uses of this mind-boggling product by Open AI.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November 2022. The most fascinating fact about it is that it took only a week to get one Million users. It has left behind platforms like Facebook, Netflix, Instagram, Spotify, and iPhone in terms of reaching the one Million mark.
There should be no confusion between OpenAI and ChatGPT though. One is a product and the other one is a company. Open AI is just a research laboratory whose mission is to ensure that the whole of humanity can take benefit from Artificial Intelligence.
Various Possible Uses of ChatGPT for Recruitment
In recruitment, ChatGPT has opened up possibilities of automating various tasks that were the responsibility of Human Resources. From recruiting, and talent acquisition to sourcing, HR professionals can now make their job easy, peasy, lemon-squeezy with ChatGPT.
• Candidate Screening
One of the most significant impacts of ChatGPT on recruitment has been in the area of candidate screening. You can use ChatGPT to conduct initial candidate screenings by asking pre-determined questions and evaluating the candidate’s responses. This will not only save you as a recruiter a significant amount of time, but also it will ensure that all candidates are evaluated based on a consistent set of criteria.
• Creating Compelling Job Descriptions
Another area where ChatGPT has made an impact is in the creation of personalized job descriptions. The model can analyze job requirements, company culture, and candidate profiles to create unique job descriptions that are tailored to each specific position and candidate. This level of personalization has been shown to increase the chances of attracting top-talent fit for your company.
• Scheduling Candidate Interviews
Recruiters have also started using ChatGPT to streamline the scheduling of interviews.
Here’s how you can schedule interviews for candidates through this tool:
- You can integrate ChatGPT with your applicant tracking system (ATS) or recruitment software to retrieve candidate details, such as contact information, resume, and interview availability.
- You can then initiate a conversation with ChatGPT and provide the necessary interview details, such as date, time, and location.
- ChatGPT will then check the candidate’s availability and suggest available time slots for the interview. If the candidate’s availability doesn’t match the suggested time slots, ChatGPT will provide alternate options or allow the recruiter to manually select a different time.
- Once the interview time is confirmed, ChatGPT can send an automated confirmation message to the candidate, including the interview details and any instructions or preparation materials.
- ChatGPT can also send reminders and notifications to the candidate and interviewer before the scheduled interview time, either through email, SMS, or chat.
Using ChatGPT in recruitment can save recruiters time and effort in scheduling interviews, while also providing a more efficient and user-friendly experience for candidates.
• Automating Whole Communication with Candidates
The ability to automate the complete communication with the candidate is the most valuable feature of ChatGPT for recruiters. Apart from scheduling interviews with candidates as we mentioned above, here are a few more examples of automating communication with the candidates.
- You can program ChatGPT to send responses to messages from candidates.
- With ChatGPT, You can set up automated screening questions to ask candidates during the initial stages of the recruitment process, allowing them to quickly assess whether the candidate is a good fit for the role.
- You can also train ChatGPT to answer common candidate questions, such as those related to the hiring process or company culture, reducing the workload for recruiters and ensuring a consistent candidate experience.
- ChatGPT can also provide candidates with information about the role, such as job requirements and responsibilities, as well as answer questions related to the company’s benefits and perks.
• Enhancing Candidate Experience
In addition to its impact on recruitment processes, ChatGPT can also take the whole candidate experience to the next level. Candidates will appreciate your speed and efficiency of the recruitment process because of Chat GPT as they can receive information and updates in real-time.
Positive candidate experience is vital for your employer branding as well. An efficient recruitment process appeals to the candidates and they share their experience online with colleagues.
• Analyzing Data and Identifying Recruitment Trends
Another benefit of ChatGPT in recruitment is its ability to analyze vast amounts of data and identify patterns and trends. This allows you to make data-driven decisions and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the recruitment process.
